Per Fire.Bomber on Airtankers group Yahoo Groups:
"The "Sherpa Fire" continues to grow along the California coast. The fire continues to push towards the ocean and has forced the evacuation of about 140 homes including the El Capitan and Refugio Beach areas, Fire crews are trying their best to protect the homes. Steep canyons are making access difficult plus it is being reported that this area has not seen a fire in over 70 years creating areas with heavy fuels. Strong winds and low humidity continue to fuel the fire and conditions will become even worse as the upcoming days are forecast too be very hot and dry. Tankers continue to operate out of Santa Maria on the fire and have made good progress on establishing retardant lines where needed."
