[CaliforniaDisasters] On This Date In California Weather History (November 5)

2011: Fresno reached a high of 57° F, setting an all-time record low maximum for this date.
The old record low maximum temperature for this date was 58°  on this date in 1996.

2010:
Fresno reached a high of 90° F, setting an all-time record for the month of November.
The old all-time record high temperature for November was 89° F on this date in 1949.

1994: 5.54" of rainfall fell in downtown San Francisco -- the all time record for daily rainfall!
The heaviest rain rates that day were in the late afternoon and evening hours.


1987:
Heavy rain and thunderstorms that started on 11.4 and ended on this day brought 2.02" to Palomar Mountain and 1.16"  to San Diego.
Numerous roadways and intersections were flooded around San Diego.
A roof collapsed in San Diego.
Minor mud slides occurred on I-8 at SDSU, Mission Valley, and near Temecula.

1987: Rain all day saturated the ground in Death Valley, but as an upper level low pressure system moved inland the rain intensified, causing flooding in the park.
Approximately five to eight thousand people were stranded due to washed out roads.
State Route 190 between Furnace Creek and Death Valley Junction was covered with water, rocks, and debris.
An eight mile stretch of State Route 190 between Stove Pipe and Furnace Creek was closed with 30 vehicles stranded.
Badwater Road was closed due to high water and debris.
Scotty's Castle received 1.2" of rain.
The people stranded in the area were visiting the park for a recreational encampment held every first weekend in November.

A strong closed low pressure generated severe thunderstorms and flash flooding.
Numerous reports of large hail and water over the roadways one to two feet deep were received from Clark County through midday and from Nye County during the afternoon.
Heavy road damage occurred in the Overton area from flash flooding and a two foot wall of water moved though several washes in the Las Vegas metro area. Large hail cracked the windshield of a DC-9 jetliner on take-off from McCarran Airport.

Flash flooding stranded 8,000 in Death Valley.
Funnel clouds were observed over March Field near Riverside and several waterspouts were seen off the coast of Los Angeles.

1973: High winds caused damage across western Nevada.
In Carson City, NV, a roof was taken off of an auto dealer shop and showroom.
In Sparks, NV, strong wind gusts lifted a roof from a building and caused the building to collapse.

1961: Strong Santa Ana winds that started on this day and ended on 11/6 fanned fires in Bel Air, Brentwood, and Topanga Canyon.
It was 74° F at 10 pm in LA with a dewpoint of 5° F.
103 fire fighters were injured.
$100 million in economic losses included 484 buildings (mostly residential) and 6,090 burned acres.

1960: Heavy rains induced flash flooding and landslides in Orange and Santa Barbara Counties.
A young boy was trapped and subsequently drowned by rising waters in a drainage canal.
Two men were injured when boulders sliding down a hillside overturned their truck.

1949: Fresno reached a high of 89° F, setting an all-time record for the month of November.

1916: A total of 10" of snow fell at Tahoe City.
