2011: A low pressure trough moved into California on November 10th.
Ahead of the trough, a strong offshore flow brought southeast winds to the region.
As these winds downsloped through the Tejon and Tehachapi Passes, very warm and above-normal temperatures occurred in the south end of the San Joaquin Valley.
Bakersfield had a high of 78°F on November 10th, and 76°F the next day.
Winds gusted at the base of the Grapevine as well, reaching 61 mph during the afternoon of November 10th, and 73 mph before sunrise the following morning.
This storm also brought snow across the Southern Sierra and Kern County Mountains.
Snowfall reports included 7" of new snow at Ponderosa and 2th.
Snow fell at Pine Mountain Club (at 6100 feet in the western Tehachapi Mountains) during the evening of November 11th, and winds gusted to 56 mph at the base of the Grapevine during the morning hours of the 12th.
A high pressure ridge built over the east Pacific, setting up a dry northwest wind flow over California.
2002: A potent early-season storm split tree limbs, bowled over fences and snapped power lines around the north state Thursday.
The front dumped more than 6" of rain in the mountains northwest of Redding, dousing the 2002 fire season.
2000: A weak Pacific storm system moved through Interior Central California bringing some snow accumulation to the mountain areas above 3500 feet MSL and justifying Snow Advisories.
Yosemite Valley and Grant Grove reported 4" of new snow, Tuolumne Meadows and Fish Camp 6".
2000: A tornado touched down in southeast Poway.
EF1 type damage was done to eight houses, trees were uprooted and knocked down, and vehicles were moved.
1999: Due to localized, lowered visibility in dense fog, 6 cars and 3 trucks were involved in a vehicular pile-up at 0645 PST on Highway 43 between Corcoran and Hanford in Kings County.
Local newspapers and law enforcement had campaigned about upcoming "fogseason" on 10/29/99.
1997: Tonight into tomorrow morning, 8" of new snow at the higher elevations of the Southern Sierra Nevada.
1997: A waterspout came ashore at Newport Pier, becoming a tornado.
It quickly dissipated over western Costa Mesa.
Winds were estimated at 60 to 70 mph.
There were minor power outages and little damage.
A fisherman was blown from one end of the Newport pier to another.
1994: Blowing dust reduced visibility to near zero on Interstate 5 near Coalinga.
1985: Snow fell at the rate of 2" an hour in Aspendell, CA (Inyo Co. near Bishop, CA) resulting in a storm total of 15".
1985: 24" of snow fell at Truckee, CA, with 20" of snow at Glenbrook, NV (east shore Lake Tahoe).
At Reno, NV, 15.2" of snow was reported from this early-season snowstorm.
1985: A storm system drops 3" of snow at Randsburg (western Mojave Desert).
1982: 12" of snow fell in Idyllwild, the greatest daily snowfall on record for November.
This also occurred on 11.28.1975.
1980: Dense fog in San Bernardino led to an Interstate 15 freeway accident involving 24 vehicles, killing seven and injuring 17.
1963: An afternoon high temperature of 85° F set a high temperature record for November at Lake Cuyamaca.
1956: It was 98° F in Escondido, the highest temperature on record for November.
This also occurred on 11.2.1997.
1954: A heavy storm dumped 2" of rain on San Bernardino and up to 6" in the nearby mountains.
Flash floods and debris flows covered the mountains.
Floodwaters inundated many parts of San Bernardino and mud slides blocked and damaged mountain roads.
1946: Priest Valley had a low temperature of 11° F -- a record for the month.
1879: 2.75" of rain fell on 11.9 and on this day in San Diego, the greatest 24-hour rainfall on record for November.
