...MODERATE SANTA ANA WINDS AND VERY LOW HUMIDITIES LIKELY ACROSS
PORTIONS OF SOUTHWEST CALIFORNIA WEDNESDAY INTO THURSDAY...
...POTENTIAL FIRST FROST OF THE SEASON WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY NIGHTS
FOR THE ANTELOPE VALLEY AND INTERIOR VALLEYS OF SAN LUIS
OBISPO COUNTY...
A COLD UPPER LEVEL TROUGH WILL SLIDE THROUGH NEVADA TONIGHT WHILE
THE WEAKER TAIL END SLIDES ACROSS SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. BEHIND THIS
FRONT...SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE WILL BUILD IN ACROSS THE GREAT BASIN
ON WEDNESDAY. AS A RESULT...INCREASING OFFSHORE FLOW WILL FORM OVER
LOS ANGELES AND VENTURA COUNTIES WEDNESDAY INTO THURSDAY. GUSTY
NORTHEAST WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO FIRST DEVELOP ACROSS THE MOUNTAINS
ON WEDNESDAY MORNING...THEN DESCEND INTO THE VALLEYS BY WEDNESDAY
AFTERNOON AND EVENING. THE GUSTY OFFSHORE WINDS WILL CONTINUE INTO
THURSDAY...SLOWLY DIMINISHING LATER IN THE AFTERNOON. THE STRONGEST
WINDS ARE EXPECTED IN THE MOUNTAINS OF LOS ANGELES AND VENTURA
COUNTIES...WHERE PEAK GUSTS BETWEEN 40 AND 50 MPH ARE LIKELY...WHILE
PEAK GUSTS IN THE VALLEYS ARE GENERALLY EXPECTED TO RANGE BETWEEN 30
AND 40 MPH.
MEANWHILE...THE OFFSHORE FLOW WILL IMPORT VERY DRY AIR INTO THE
REGION. HUMIDITIES ARE EXPECTED TO FALL RAPIDLY ACROSS THE MOUNTAINS
AND WIND PRONE VALLEYS ON WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON...WITH WIDESPREAD
SINGLE DIGIT READINGS ON WEDNESDAY NIGHT AND THURSDAY. WHILE THE
OFFSHORE WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO DIMINISH BY LATE THURSDAY
AFTERNOON...WARM AND VERY DRY CONDITIONS WILL LIKELY CONTINUE ACROSS
THE MOUNTAINS AND INTERIOR VALLEYS THROUGH THE WEEKEND.
THE VERY LOW HUMIDITIES COMBINED WITH GUSTY OFFSHORE WINDS WILL
RESULT IN HEIGHTENED FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS FOR LOS ANGELES AND
VENTURA COUNTIES LATE WEDNESDAY THROUGH THURSDAY AFTERNOON. THE
GREATEST CONCERN IS IN THE MOUNTAINS...WHERE THE STRONGEST AND
LONGEST DURATION OF WINDS ARE EXPECTED. DUE TO THESE CONDITIONS...A
RED FLAG WARNING HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR THE LOS ANGELES AND VENTURA
COUNTY MOUNTAINS TO ADDRESS THESE CONCERNS. THE VALLEYS WILL ALSO
HAVE A HEIGHTENED FIRE WEATHER CONCERN...ESPECIALLY THE SANTA
CLARITA AND EASTERN VENTURA VALLEYS...AND MAY APPROACH RED FLAG
WARNING CRITERIA.
WHILE THE DAYTIME TEMPERATURES WILL BE ON THE RISE DUE TO THE
OFFSHORE WINDS...THE INFLUX OF VERY DRY AIR WILL CAUSE MUCH COOLER
CONDITIONS WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY NIGHTS ACROSS INTERIOR PORTIONS OF
SOUTHWEST CALIFORNIA. THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR TEMPERATURES TO
REACH THE FREEZING MARK IN THE COLDEST WIND SHELTERED PORTIONS OF
THE ANTELOPE VALLEY AND INTERIOR VALLEYS OF SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY.
AS A RESULT...THESE AREAS MAY EXPERIENCE THEIR FIRST FROST OF THE
SEASON.
STAY TUNED TO NOAA WEATHER RADIO OR YOUR LOCAL MEDIA FOR THE
LATEST UPDATES ON THIS SITUATION.
