Re: [Geology2] very interesting mystery rock



All I know right now, is that is has been in the guy's family for 20+ years..mother , who acquired it, is passed on so no one knows where it is from. Hopefully there are more pictures and an actual weight coming today..other than that I know nothing about it......

Do a streak test, if it IS natural then Goethite would be a good candidate. Also, is it magnetic? Where did you find it?

Is it from an area where there has been any metal smelting? If so, it is likely a slag or speiss. Most of the meteorite candidates brought to me for identification turn out to be artifacts of local industry from the previous century.
