[Geology2] Some history of Crater Lake

/HISTORY OF BEND, OREGON
Indians lived in the region for thousands of years, with the first time
of habitation not precisely known. It is certain that when Mt. Mazama
(Crater Lake's volcano) erupted, *about 9,000 years ago*, Indians
witnessed the event and perished in the cataclysm. *Caves sealed by lava
and ash flow have yielded Indian artifacts, such as reed sandals,
carbon-dated to this period.*
