They're usually only tropical storms with rain by the time they hit land. I think we've had only one hurricane make landfall in modern times, in the mid-1930s. It hit southern California really hard, My wife's father, who lived in Redlands at the time, remembered it washing a bulldozer down the Santa Ana River.

No. Sometimes you might get a remnant of a hurricane in lower California,
but that is Mexican territory belonging to Mexico, so we really don't get
it there like you do in Florida, or on the East Coast. Most of the time in
California during the summer, there is very little rain, and just dry
weather.
