The hurricanes die out or turn west before reaching us/US. I remember two
Septembers where we had rain; in 1972, we had a couple of weeks of fairly
severe rain (I'd just moved here, but the locals were saying, "But it
*never* rains in September!) and in 1999 (I think it was), we had a few days
of drizzle/showers. Both were the fringes of hurricanes, and the most we
ever get.
If it rains here not between November and May, it's almost certainly a
hurricane. In fact, since rain and winter go together here, if it's raining,
kids wear their winter coats to school--yes, even during that latter
September "storm", where the temps were in the 70s-80s. (Somebody asked me
why I wasn't wearing raingear. I answered that if I did, I'd get wetter from
the inside than I was getting from the outside without it.)
