Re: [Geology2] Harold Camping's 21st May Doomsday prediction fails; No earthq...

I also thought about the calendar change but didn't know all the details of it or even how to explain it.  Thanks for the facts on it.

A couple of people I talked to this morning said that the earthquake was supposed to hit at 6 pm in each local time zone starting in New Zealand and move westward around the globe.  Talk about a long earthquake.

Hey Ya'll,

I've searched everywhere and the only news I can find is that Camping is in hiding and the doors to his offices are closed. That's it. Guess we'll have to wait for this second explanation (#rapturefail).

After thinking about it, I think if he gets really technical, he'll blame it on the calendar difference--that is, if someone around him with any sense tells him. Remember the switch from Julian to Gregorian calendar in the 16 century? Geez, everybody toyed with it. I think that England dropped like 11 days from their calendar and of course, Pope Gregory changed leap years to figure into a numerical formula. But if Camping used the Hebrew calendar, he still messed up on his days, as the Hebrew calendar is not without its own alterations.

Don't you just love science, history, and plain old facts?  LOLOL

Yeah that's a good one, although I doubt whether most who make these types of claims see it like that. They seem to always take a deterministic as well as a literal view.

Another "reason" would be "God decided to give us another chance."

Yes I echo that. I really enjoy the posts here, despite not having the time to get into many discussions.

I was aware of Mr Camping's predictions and it should be fun to see how he talks himself out of it.  One idea is that 'God changed his mind,' lol!  It makes for a good laugh.

Yeah there is the geological theory linked to Noah's flood and of a world only 6-10,000 years old which is an example that most would also class as utter drivel, but some scientists/Geologists still believe it!  I wonder how many of them went along with Mr. Camping, lol? They probably feel a tad embarrassed right now!

Blimey Oreilly and bloomin eck.  I spent the mortgage money today thinking that the world would end at 6pm uk time .  now Im in it ---not lol

I have my final exam next month.  68 and still at it.  The study that is.  I put the exam off from last year as I was not well.  Part of my revision is Volcanism of Iceland, Basin and Range eastern USA and all covered as plate tectonics .   Lots of in depth stuff on Basalts and earthquakes.  I feel like I cannot remember anything.  Trouble is I spend so much time on this site reading all the fab interesting articles when I should be revising but I don't care.  Love this site

Loz,

Whether you want to acknowledge this news or not, it is a factual event that one person touched the lives of millions of people worldwide by twisting geological theories and timetables. I posted this as an endcap piece to the entire debacle so that folks here could understand how Cummings derived the date for his personal doomsday.

Drivel? Yes. Rubbish? Yes. But then, it is also news regarding a phenomenon that deluded thousands of people who were ignorant of geology and of science, in general. And as long as geology is connected to any news event, regardless of whether it's ridiculous or trivial, I will post it.

Now, man, where the heck is your sense of humor? Lighten up and have a laugh.
