5.22 pm: Power, networks down in most of Baluchistan
Iranian State television has reported that power and communication systems are down in most of Sistan and Baluchistan province after the quake. And in case you were wondering about Iran's nuclear facilities, it turns out that they will not face the same fate as Japan's nuclear plant.
Reuters reported that the Russian company that built Iran's Busehr nuclear power plant have confirmed that the plant is fine.
5.09 pm: Iranian television say at least 40 are dead
Times Now has just reported that Iranian television reports are putting the number of dead at around 40. Iran's Press TV reportedly made the claim. At 7.8, the quake is the deadliest to hit the country since September 1978.

Press TV gave no further details on the extent of damage in the sparsely populated areas.
Iran's seismological center said the 7.5 magnitude earthquake was centered near Saravan, a sparsely populated area about 48 kilometers from the Pakistani border. The US Geological Survey put the preliminary magnitude at 7.8 and at a depth of 15.2 kilometers.
The quake struck less than a week after a 6.1 magnitude quake hit near Bushehr, on Iran's Persian Gulf coast, killing at least 37 people.
5.02 pm: Iranian officials expecting 'hundreds of dead', reports Reuters
The Reuters news agency has quoted an unnamed Iranian official as saying hundreds of dead are expected from the quake near Khash. "It was the biggest earthquake in Iran in 40 years and we are expecting hundreds of dead," said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
4.52 pm: City of Khash, Iran reportedly worst affected by quake
We're still not getting many reports from near the epicentre of the quake, but reports indicate that the Iranian city of Khash, is likely to be the worst affected. According to theEuropean Mediterranean seismological centre.
The US Geological Survey said the quake hit at 5.44 a.m. ET at a depth of 15.2 km (9.4 miles). The epicenter was in southeast Iran in an area of mountains and desert, reportedReuters.
It was located 201 km (125 miles) southeast of the Iranian city of Zahedan and 250 km northwest of Turbat in Pakistan, USGS said.

4.38 pm: Epicentre of quake confirmed to be Taftan, Iran
The latest reports coming in, put the epicentre of the quake as Taftan, Iran.
Taftan is an area located in Chaghi District, Balochistan, Pakistan. It is Pakistan's only legal official border crossing into Iran.
There is also an active stratovolcano called Taftan in southeastern Iran situated in the Sistan and Baluchestan province. At nearly 4,000 metres above sea level, it is the highest mountain in southeastern Iran. The nearest city is Khash.
Still no details about the magnitude of damage or loss to life, if any.
4.30 pm: Massive earthquake hits Iran, tremors felt in Delhi, North India
A massive earthquake believed to have occurred on the Iran-Pakistan border has caused tremors in Delhi, the National Capital Region and other states in North India.
The US Geological Survey said that an earthquake of magnitude 8 on the Richter scale had been recorded with its epicentre in Iran. It is unclear exactly where in Iran the quake has occurred.
Tremors were also felt across the Middle East and Gulf region.
