Hi Group;
That Boston Marathon bombing definitely hit home with me. Over the years, I've ran several marathons myself, although never made it to Boston. That one has a qualifying time and is also used as the Olympic Trials for our marathon athletes. For me to see an event like that, something I've personally competed in, devastated like that is beyond upsetting. Sports in general are one of the few ways people in this world can interact completely without violence (unless your talking about MMA, etc.). The marathon, in particular, attracts athletes with very cooperative type personalities. Not exactly non competitive, but the elite will congratulate the newcomers to the sport ... just for making it to the finish line. Great sport! At the end of the first one I finished, one of the officials who was also the US Olympic Team track coach, was giving hugs and congratulations to the people who came in LAST as well as to the elite runners who were on their way to the Olympic games. I've worked many marathons as a ham radio operator as well. I am terribly saddened that someone has marred this peaceful event with violence. My thoughts and prayers go out to all affected.
