On Tuesday, July 23, and Wednesday, July 24 the Early Warning System sirens located in the Diablo Canyon Emergency Planning Zone will undergo routine low volume growl tests. Each of the 131 sirens will be tested individually for a period of a few seconds. This is only a test and no action is required on the part of the public. For information on the sirens and the Diablo Canyon Emergency Planning Zone, please see the nuclear power plant emergency planning information link on the left side menu bar on this page.
What Does OES do?
Disasters can strike at anytime and any place. Here, in San Luis Obispo County, we are risk for several different types of disasters; from floods and fires, to earthquakes and hazardous materials incidents. The SLO County Office of Emergency Services (OES), in coordination with local, state, and emergency response organizations, works continuously to better prepare and respond to any disaster our community may face.
What makes us unique?
Here on the central coast, we have ONE of only TWO operational nuclear power plants in California. Diablo Canyon Power Plant has been producing power in San Luis Obispo County since 1985. Due greatly to this facility, SLO County OES has additional funding and staff to help better prepare this community should something happen at the plant.
What is on our Web page?
On this page you will find information related to emergency preparedness and planning, nuclear power plant information, County OES Events, current disaster information, new emergency plans and revisions, and many links to related Web sites. We encourage everyone to use the information on this page to learn how to be prepared for emergencies.
