Welcome Back!


Congratulations to AP Art student Nicole Hensley. She has received a Gold Key Award and an American Vision Nomination and an Honorable Mention for 2 pieces she submitted in the Scholastic Art and Writing Competition. She was one of only 5 students chosen from New Mexico to receive the American Vision Nomination and was the only public school student to receive this nomination. Her artwork will now be judged nationally for monetary awards and scholarship opportunities. Good job Nicole!


Seniors it is time to make your nominations for the 2014 Senior Superlatives. Please stop by the activities office and pick up your nomination form. All nominations are due back to the activities office by Friday. You will be voting during advisory on Tuesday, January 14th.


The Open Space Gallery will be hosting the high school art show entitled "Trees, Rocks and Dirt". This will be a multi high school show that includes paintings, drawings, photography, computer graphics and 3D sculpture. Besides art students from Volcano Vista, West Mesa and Eldorado art students will also be joining in. The awards ceremony will be held Jan 11, this Saturday from 3-5. The gallery is located at 6500 Coors NW. The show will be open from Jan 8th - Feb 16th. Please come out and show your support for our art students.


ATTENTION all students and staff that signed up for the volleyball challenge this week.  Please report to the main gym at 11:05.  The schedule and teams are posted on the main gym door.  Each team will play two 10 minute games Monday - Thursday.  Only team members will be allowed on the gym floor.  Spectators can sit in the north mezzanine to cheer on the staff team!


Students your student ambassadors will be hosting mixers all week at lunch in the north mezzanine (where you played hockey in pe).  Monday will be an ice-cream social, Tuesday will be an art activity, Wednesday will be a fashion show and Thursday will be a tolerance activity.  Please come by and get to know all of our great students and staff during lunch.


Wright Club will begin designing Hawkword Moments, Volcano's literary magazine, soon. Please submit your poetry, short stories, drawings, paintings, graphic designs, etc. to H219 as soon as possible. Please limit 4 submissions per person. The deadline for submission is February 3rd, so it's time to get creative.


Slam poetry is meeting this Thursday in H219, Ms. Montoya's room. Please be there as soon as you can.


ATHLETICS:

  • G. Basketball ­ had wins over Valley, Albuquerque High and El Paso Franklin over the break. They play in the Metro Tournament All Week and Kick off on Tuesday at VVHS at 7:15 PM vs. West Mesa
  • B. Basketball Highland and lost to El Paso Andress over the break. They play in the Metro all week this week and Kick off on Tuesday at Cibola at 5:30 PM against Albuquerque High
  • Swim has a meet on Saturday at West Mesa.
  • Wrestling ­  - 4th Place at APS Invite - Wrestle Tuesday against Eldorado and Cleveland and are at Pinto Duals on Saturday in Moriarty
