On This Date In California Weather History...
2006: A line of thunderstorms dropped 2 inches of rain at a farm southwest of Mendota in the afternoon hours.
Hail as large as one inch in diameter fell near Firebaugh and a funnel cloud was observed west of Five Points.
2001: Springtime snowstorm in the foothills: 6" fell at North Fork and Coarsegold, while 4" was measured at Oakhurst.
In the Tehachapis, 3" fell at Frazier Park.
Over 2 feet of snow fell above 8,000 feet in the Sierra with 16" in Yosemite National Park at the 6,000 foot level where the combination of heavy snow and gusty winds downed a number of trees.
1988: Heavy rain began on 4.19 and ended on 4.23.
4.15 inches of rain fell in 24 hours at Mt. Wilson.
Flooding, mud slides and numerous traffic accidents occurred around LA.
26 were injured in a major collision.
Three straight Dodgers baseball games were rained out.
Only 12 rainouts had occurred in the previous 26 years.
1987: A rare springtime weak Santa Ana event brought 90°+ temperatures to the region on this day and on 4.22.
It was 97° in El Cajon, 95° in Spring Valley, 94° in Santee, and 93° at SDSU, Miramar, La Mesa, LA and Borrego Springs.
It was 91° in Poway, Escondido and Fallbrook, and 87° in San Diego.
Numerous small brush fires erupted in the San Diego valleys.
1963: Rare late-season snow in the Kern County desert: Mojave had one half of an inch and Randsburg a trace.
1944: It was 32° in Santa Ana, the latest freezing temperature of the season on record.
1908: It snowed 0.6 inch in Santa Ana on this day and on 4.22, the greatest (and latest) snowfall on record.
