Originally organized in 2005 in the wake of Hurricane Katrina when local leaders worried about the public's ability to handle a major catastrophe, this year's event was expected to draw between 1,000 and 2,000 people to the U.S. Geological Survey campus.
While there were booths featuring everything from SWAT teams to vendors selling earthquake kits, the most intense questions were directed at emergency service workers who demonstrated how to shut the gas flow to a home.
