====As I was saying, your quality of formal education shows in your
"lifelong learning"; you were taught to think and to learn. THAT is the core
characteristic of a quality education. <Political/social comments foregone.>

====I try to explain earthquakes to friends and family in the Rust Belt by
saying a 3.0 earthquake for us is much like three-to-six inches of snow in
February to them. (That's enough to bring the plows out, but that's about
the entire impact. And with front-wheel drive and radial tires, most people
I know don't even use snow tires anymore. "Let me know when it gets to be
more than two inches per hour and more than two feet.")
(And rare is the winter they don't have such a storm, whereas we have a
major quake, what, about once in ten years somewhere in the state?)
