Re: [californiadisasters] Santa Ana Wind Red Flag Warnings (1/23/14-PM)

If I didn't clarify, all of the San Fernando Valley is calm.   The entire Valley, as well as all of the LA Basin is calm and cloudy.   So the widely encompassing red flag warning forecast was quite off.    It seems the on-shore strengthened at the last minute and only the deserts and I.E. are getting the high pressure winds.

All good of course, as we need a big break.    Otherwise, the red flag warnings over a period of time have gelled very closely to what we've actually gotten weather-wise.

Now a bit off-topic, but the first chances of rain are starting to pop up for Feb. 1 and 2.   We'll see how this plays out.

And just because you are getting some onshore push in your area does not mean Red Flag Warnings do not apply to some other area of in the Red Flag Warned area. They don't break them up into small zones by neighborhood.

Red Flag Warnings are NOT High Wind Warnings but rather apply to a combination of humidity and/or temperature and/or wind factors. The conditions were Red Flag Conditions based upon the low humidity, mild temperatures, and what modest winds were manifested in some areas. The Red Flag Warnings are mostly based upon automated weather gathering systems and when the conditions fall below Red Flag Warning status they pull the plug on the bulletins as they did today.

Yes, exactly.   Yesterday's strong red flag warnings were for last night and today- nothing of which panned out.   In fact, we have total opposite weather (on-shore).
