[californiadisasters] Re: Tornado warning in Sacramento

I'm in MA. I will copy below two posts I made earlier tonight to the "Disaster Watch" Yahoo Group
Adding to posts below. Sturbridge and Carlton (near junction of I84 and I90) were actually hit by two tornadoes about 2 hours apart.

Post 1
For about the past two hours or so storm cells have been marching West to East
across Massachusetts. At one point two tornadoes were tracking W to E on
parallel tracks. Severe damage reported in Springfield MA (to west), Worcester
(central MA) and Munson (town just east of SPringfield) TV weather people
reporting the tornado in Springfield as probably F3 strength.

Cars overturned at intersection of I84 and I90. Cars overturned in I90 rest
areas in Charlton and Sturbridge (both just east of I84). Cars also overturned
at I90 and I91.

Governor Deval Patrick was just on TV , all MA channels, reporting that he has
declared state of emergency, ordered 1000 Natonal Guard troops to the area.
Governor is in State EOC bunker in Framinghan, FEMA is staffing their seats in
the EOC and a FEMA team is on the way to affected areas. Governor reported a
fatality in West Springfield in a crushed car and multiple injured being treated
at Bay State Medical Center and other hospitals. 28 admitted to hospital and
may more being treated for lesser injuries. A number of schools have no roofs.

Damage on TV is pretty impressive of overturned cars, homes destroyed etc.

Gov Patrick just said 15 cities and town affected.

Good media sources are:
Boston Globe http://www.boston.com

WBZ http://boston.cbslocal.com/

TV showing interesting video of visible funnel forming in Springfield near I91
and the Connecticut River

FYI I live on coast, halfway between Boston and Plymouth

Post 2

Governor Patrick back on air for update

4 Dead:
1 dead in West Springfield
1 dead in Brimfield
2 dead in Westfield

48,000 homes without power

all 911 centers operational

19 communities affected by tornado damage

some looting in downtown Springfield

Governor has requested that all schools in the 19 affected communities so that
1) schools can be checked for safety 2) schools may be needed as emergency
shelters

Governor did briefing during break between periods 1 and 2 of Stanley Cup game
one. (If he interrupted the Bruins - Canucks game impeachment might
result<grin>)
