A fire whorl/tornado/devil *IS* a heads up for today’s firefighters. If you’re in front of one, you’re in the wrong place and should be considering heading into your shelter (more times than not). It means that the winds are erratic, powerful and you more than likely do NOT have the proper tools (water, hose, aircraft) in position and you’re in deep doo doo.
However, I’ve seen them across the field and they’re interesting to watch too. It all depends on conditions and where you are at the time.
