Two cabins were destroyed Wednesday night in a two-acre blaze that roared to life in a remote wilderness area in eastern Orange County, fire officials said.
The blaze was reported at 6:07 p.m. Wednesday in Holy Jim Canyon, a popular hiking spot in the shadow of the iconic Santiago and Modjeska peaks of the Santa Ana mountain range.
One person was treated at the scene for minor burns, and the fire was fully contained just after 9 p.m., said Orange County Fire Authority spokeswoman Lynette Round. No homes were evacuated.
Firefighters were working Wednesday night to understand what caused the blaze, said Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi.
"We're not sure if it started in the vegetation or in a cabin," Concialdi said.
Accessible only by dirt roads, Holy Jim Canyon is the site of a hiking trail that leads to the Holy Jim Falls waterfall.
Trabuco Canyon Road, the roadway leading to Holy Jim Canyon, was closed as firefighters battled the blaze with helicopter and ground crews.--
