(01-21) 15:20 PST SANTA ROSA -- The seemingly endless dry spell has led the National Weather Service to issue another advisory about critical fire weather - this time for mountains in the North Bay.
The extended period of arid weather, coupled with wind gusts between 25 and 30 mph at higher elevations, means an elevated fire risk for interior Mendocino County and areas of Sonoma County. The "fire weather watch" is set to run from 10 p.m. Wednesday to noon Thursday.
Meanwhile, forecasters at the weather service say they see no precipitation showing up anytime soon. They are, however, concerned about coastal waters, with a high surf advisory going into effect along northern California beaches from Point Reyes to Big Sur.
That advisory is set for 10 a.m. Thursday through at least Friday evening. Swells are forecast to reach 15 feet, with some beaches experiencing wave heights of 20 feet or more.
