[CaliforniaDisasters] On This Date In California Weather History (August 6)

2018: Hot and dry summer conditions along with the terrain, led to the start and spread of the Holy fire.
The fire started in the afternoon in Trabuco Canyon, and exploded over the next few days, scorching over 23,000 acres.
It forced the evacuation of over 20,000 people from the Lake Elsinore area, and destroyed 18 buildings.
It went on to burn for well over a month, and was eventually contained on 9/16.

2015: A severe thunderstorm struck near Mecca, producing a copious amount of
lightning and very strong, damaging winds, including a brief EF1 tornado.
Over 100 power poles were damaged or destroyed.
A car was flipped.

2005: A very active monsoon impacted the region during the first week of August.
On this day severe thunderstorms caused havoc along the "Elsinore Convergence Zone" in the Inland Empire.
A microburst produced winds in excess of 60 mph over Interstate 215 near Perris.
Power was knocked out to more than 30,000 people, homes and business were damages, and Interstate 215 was closed so crews could remove downed power lines. 

1998:
It was 112° F in Victorville, the highest temperature on record for August.
This also occurred the next day on 8.7 and on 8.14.2002.

1997: A major heat wave started on 8.2 and ended on 8.7.
Temperatures hit 121° F in Thermal, 118° F in Borrego Springs, 113° F in Brea, 110° F in Riverside and Ontario, and 101° F in Julian.
The low temperature was 93° F in Palm Springs on 8.5.
5 deaths were attributed to this heat wave.
On this day a funnel cloud was reported in Pine Valley.

1992: A F0 tornado touched down on the north end of the 
Nevada Test Site (just east of the CA-NV border).

1990: Severe thunderstorms rolled through Apple Valley, Hesperia, and Victorville.
Up to 40 homes were flooded and 2 people were killed when they were caught up in flood waters rushing through normally dry Mojave River.
More than 23,000 people lost power.
A second severe storm in the Coachella Valley ripped up trees and splintered power poles, cutting power to an additional 20,000 people.

1983: Saint Helena had a high temperature of 109° F.

1983: The high temperature at Reno, NV, was 105° F .

1950: It was 42° F in Riverside, the lowest temperature on record for August.
