Re: [CaliforniaDisasters] 10th Anniversary of 2009 Station Fire

At the time, I was a docent at Mount Wilson Observatory.  We had to shut down all our tour operations, of course.  The site supervisor was still up there, the only one, hosting the Helena Hot Shots, who  chose to sleep on the concrete floor of the 100-inch telescope dome rather than the ground where they normally would sleep,, when the slept.  Etc.

After it was over, there was a question about whether another observatory, the amateur Stony Ridge Observatory, near Charlton Flats had survived.  There were no vegetation obstructions, so the Mount Wilson site supervisor was able to photograph Stony Ridge, to prove that at least the building still stood.  Apparently the fire went right up to the cleared area (which did its job!) & stopped.
