[californiadisasters] [EDIS] Excessive Heat Warning In Low Desert Continues



THE HOTTEST DAYTIME HIGHS SO FAR THIS YEAR...AT OR NEAR RECORD  LEVELS FOR THE CALENDAR DATE... WILL OCCUR SATURDAY. HUMIDITY WILL  INCREASE ON SUNDAY... SO DAYTIME HIGHS WILL BE SEVERAL DEGREES LOWER THAT WHAT OCCURS ON SATURDAY. THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN PHOENIX HAS ISSUED AN EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM MST /10 AM PDT/ TO  8 PM MST /8 PM PDT/ SATURDAY. THE EXCESSIVE HEAT WATCH FOR SUNDAY IS  NO LONGER IN EFFECT... AS AN INCREASE IN ATMOSPHERIC MOISTURE WILL  KEEP DAYTIME HIGH TEMPERATURES SEVERAL DEGREES BELOW EXCESSIVE HEAT CRITERIA. * AFFECTED AREA: SOUTHEAST CALIFORNIA AND SOUTHWEST ARIZONA. * LOCATIONS INCLUDE: TACNA...WELLTON...FORTUNA FOOTHILLS... YUMA...QUARTZSITE...SALOME...EHRENBERG...PARKER...CHIRIACO SUMMIT...DESERT CENTER...BLYTHE...BRAWLEY...CALEXICO...EL CENTRO  * TEMPERATURE: RECORD OR NEAR RECORD DAILY HIGH TEMPERATURES SATURDAY INCLUDING 118 AT BLYTHE...117 AT YUMA...AND 116 AT IMPERIAL. * IMPACTS: EVEN MODEST OUTDOOR ACTIVITY IN THESE EXTREME TEMPERATURES CAN CAUSE DETRIMENTAL HEALTH EFFECTS. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... TO REDUCE RISK DURING OUTDOOR WORK...THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS SCHEDULING FREQUENT REST BREAKS IN SHADED OR AIR CONDITIONED ENVIRONMENTS. TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS IF YOU WORK OR SPEND TIME OUTSIDE. WHEN POSSIBLE...RESCHEDULE STRENUOUS ACTIVITIES TO EARLY MORNING OR EVENING. KNOW THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF HEAT EXHAUSTION AND HEAT STROKE. WEAR LIGHT WEIGHT AND LOOSE FITTING CLOTHING WHEN POSSIBLE AND DRINK PLENTY OF WATER. IF YOU WEAR A WIDE-BRIMMED HAT...YOUR HEAD AND BODY WILL BE MUCH COOLER.
