578 lightning strikes touch down in Shasta-Trinity National Forest, ignite several fires
SHASTA-TRINITY NATIONAL FOREST, Calif. — 578 lightning strikes have touched down in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest within the past 24 hours, according to the U.S. Forest Service Shasta-Trinity division.
As a result, the U.S. Forest Service says firefighters are responding to several lightning fires across the forest.
In addition, aerial reconnaissance flights are scheduled for Saturday to help identify potential fires in the forest.
The resources responding to these lightning fires can include helicopters, air tankers, smokejumpers, crews and engines.
