[CaliforniaDisasters] On This Date In California Weather History (August 1)

2017: Numerous monsoon thunderstorms struck the valleys.
1.56" of rain fell in Alpine in a short period.
Flash flooding, downed trees and power outages were reported in Corona, Perris, San Bernardino, Temecula, and Alpine. 

2003:  Strong slow-moving thunderstorms developed in the Borrego Valley and dropped an estimated 2.5" to 3'' of rain in 2 hours.
Flash flooding occurred, including 4' of water running in San Felipe Wash.
A 10' wall of water swept through Borrego Palm Canyon stranding a family of 6 hikers and their car.
Flood waters also reached a dept of 4' in San Felipe Wash, filled Benson Dry Lake, submerged half of the runway at Ocotillo Wells Airport, and debris was deposited on Hwy. 78.

2003: A stationary thunderstorm produced an estimated two and a half inches of rain just south of Twentynine Palms.
Spotters reported two feet of water in local washes along with water running across roads making them impassable. 

2000: Thunderstorms produced heavy rain and gusty winds as well as golf ball size hail about 6 miles east of Tehachapi.

2000: A thunderstorm dropped half inch hail on Lake Arrowhead.

2000: The high temperature at Hawthorne, NV, (NE of Mono Lake) was 104° F.

1993: It was an amazing 123° in Palm Springs, the highest temperature on record.
This also occurred on 7.28 and 7.29 of 1995, and on 7.10.1979.

1986: Fresno had a low of 86°, its' highest minimum temperature on record for the month of August.

1983: A tornado in Landers (Yucca Valley area) caused property damage.

1977: Susanville had a high temperature of 105° F.

1972:
It was 100° F in Palomar Mountain (San Diego Co.), the highest temperature on record.
This also occurred on eight other days.

1959: Intense monsoon thunderstorms developed in the deserts from Blythe to the Imperial Valley.
The storms produced flash flooding and severe winds that damaged utility lines, flooded highways and farms, and washed out irrigation canals.

1930: 2.03" of rain fell in Palm Springs, the greatest daily amount for August.

1900: Santa Cruz hit 108° F, tying its all-time record which was also set on September 7, 1904.
