2017: High pressure aloft and Santa Ana Winds combined to bring record breaking temperatures quite late in the season from 10/23 to 10/25.
On this day, Vista and Poway both peaked at 107° F, while it was 106° F at the airports at Oceanside, Fullerton and John Wayne.
El Cajon and Huntington Beach hit 105° F.
85 schools in San Diego made early releases on all three days.
2016: A widespread elevated thunderstorm event occurred across Southern California lasting 24 hours from 10/23 to this day.
It produced2,500 cloud-to-ground strikes.
Several power poles were downed or burned due to lightning strikes.
One strike hit a football player in El Cajon, but he survived.
2001: Dense fog in the Inland Empire led to 13 separate pile-up accidents involving 39 vehicles on Interstate 215 in Perris.
8 were injured.1998: Gusty pre-frontal winds caused a dust storm 3 miles east of Hanford.
15 cars and a tractor trailer were involved resulting in 8 injuries.
1992: Hail measuring 1.75" was reported just south of Lake Havasu City, AZ. Damage from the hail was minimal.
1971: Isolated and briefly heavy thunderstorms struck the region.
1.58" fell in San Bernardino, 0.12" in Riverside, but nothing in Redlands.
Some places reported drifts of hail.
Streets flooded with up to 2 feet of water and/or became slippery with hail.
Numerous traffic accidents resulted.
1959: Oakland airport had a high of 88° F.
1956: The morning low temperature at Donner Memorial State Park was 4° F.
1951: It was 30° F in Palm Springs, the lowest temperature on record for October and the earliest date in the season to record a freezing temperature.
1945: The morning low temperature at Reno, NV, was 18° F.
