Chronicle Readers:
The Bay Area hasn't faced a weekend this frightening in years. The Kincade Fire in Sonoma County continues to grow, forcing tens of thousands of evacuations, with fears that tonight's windstorm could spread the flames faster than residents can flee.
PG&E now plans to shut off power to nearly 1 million homes and businesses. Just a few hours ago, more than 90,000 customers were added to the possible outage zones. When will the lights be turned back on? It could be a day, or up to a week.
Areas not threatened by wildfires or wide-ranging outages, such as San Francisco, face potentially hazardous levels of air pollution as the smoke from the North Bay blows across California.
Chronicle journalists are along the fire lines, within the evacuation zones and in the newsroom working to bring you the most comprehensive coverage you'll find anywhere. We appreciate your support.
