2014: The Dog Rock caused by sparks generated by hot metal fragments from a vehicle along highway 140 began between El Portal and the entrance to Yosemite National Park.
Highway 140 was closed in the vicinity of the fire, restricting entrance into Yosemite National Park for 5 days.
The fire burned 311 acres before being contained on October 12, 2014.
Cost of containment was $2.5 million.
There was one fatality: an air tanker fighting the fire crashed on this first day of the incident.
2001: The high temperature in Death Valley National Park was 95° F, ending a record streak of 154 consecutive days with the high temperature 100° F or hotter.
1997: Very intense thunderstorms hit the Inland Empire.
In Hemet, 1.65" of rain fell in just 75 minutes, and 0.31" fell in just 3 minutes.

Up to 2" of rain fell in one hour on Holcomb Hill near Running Springs, the rapid runoff loosened debris associated with a recent burn scar and sent a 6-foot wall of mud and debris flowing downhill.
The flow damaged 29 buildings, 14 cars and forced a helicopter rescue of 4 teenagers.
Big Bear Lake recorded 0.5" of snowfall, the earliest measurable snowfall on record.
1996: The Wild Wildfire began and burned roughly 25,000 acres over a 11 day period south of Big Sur.
1996: Monterey had a high of 103° F.
1977: Hurricane Heather recurved with the remnants tracking across northern Baja California into Arizona.
There was rainfall up to 2" in the southern mountains and deserts on 10.6 and on this day.
This occurred during the El NiƱo of 1977-78.
1962: The morning low temperature at Reno, NV, was 22° F.
1917: Friant Dam (Fresno Co. - forms Millerton Lake) recorded a high of 105° F.
