PG&E customers report trouble accessing website ahead of shutoffs
Pacific Gas and Electric Co. customers were having trouble accessing the utility's website Tuesday as the company cited a "high volume of traffic" ahead of power shutoffs for parts of 34 California counties this week.
The potential shutoffs will affect nearly 800,000 customers across Northern and Central California, the utility said.
"We are currently experiencing high volume of traffic to our website and call centers and understand your frustration with the delay of accessing Public Safety Power Shutoff (#PSPS) information. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience as our team is working as quickly as possible to restore access," PG&E said in a post on its Facebook page.
The planned shutoffs are part of PG&E's Public Safety Power Shutoff Program, which is designed to reduce the threat of wildfire that could be sparked by lines brought down in gusting winds.
