Pacific Gas & Electric on Monday evening narrowed down the area for a possible power shutoff starting Wednesday.

In the Bay Area, the updated notice covers almost 160,000 customers in the counties of San Mateo, Santa Cruz, Santa Clara, Alameda and Contra Costa, and about 130,000 in Solano, Sonoma and Napa counties.

The approximate boundaries of the potential outage are shown on the map above. Besides the Bay Area, the notice covers portions of the counties of Alpine, Amador, Butte, Calaveras, Colusa, El Dorado, Glenn, Lake, Mariposa, Mendocino, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, San Joaquin, Shasta, Sierra, Stanislaus, Tehama, Tuolumne, Yolo and Yuba.

For updated information or to check whether a specific address is expected to be affected, go to PG&E's website. The utility will also attempt to notify customers before their electricity is cut.

The anticipated power shutoff time is 4 a.m. Wednesday.

The planned shutoff was prompted by heightened fire risk amid expected dry and windy conditions on Wednesday.
